Utilisation of Synthetic Oils in the MG Kailis Group Fleet

DEMONSTRATION OF LEADERSHIP

MG Kailis Group introduced synthetic oil technology to their fleet in the early 1990’s in conjunction with the engineers and technical departments at Mobil Oil. At that stage the technology surrounding the lubrication of diesel engines and gearboxes with synthetic oil was very new. Due to the foreseeable long term environmental benefits, it was  agreed to test the synthetic oils on the large MG Kailis fleet with the hope that synthetic oil would prove advantageous and the positive results would influence the rest of the fishing industry into changing from mineral oil to synthetic oil.

Following the successful testing phase over a number of years, MG Kailis were proud to expose the results of the exceptional operation of their engines and gearboxes to other operators throughout Western Australia. Many vessels in Western Australia and Australia have taken advantage of this assistance and advice and MG Kailis are continuing to inform and teach as many fishermen and fishing companies as possible in an effort to change their behaviour and attitude towards using synthetic oil because the amount of oil that is saved is not only monetarily advantageous in the long term but also more environmentally friendly.

The fishing industry is built on traditions and convincing fishermen and owners to change the way they operate was and still is a very difficult task. MG Kailis Group is committed to the promotion of awareness of environmental issues and to the promotion of ecological sustainability and therefore will continue to provide teaching and encouraging research into environmental issues.
