The Holden Racing Team’s Garth Tander has completed a shakedown test of his new HRT Holden VF Commodore chassis at Winton, in country Victoria, ahead of this weekend's Sydney Motorsport Park 400.
The new Commodore, with chassis number WR-21, is being rolled out as part of the team’s development cycle – and contains a number of upgrades designed to ensure the team challenges at the front ahead of the all-important endurance races.
“A new Commodore is always exciting,” Tander said.
“And it performed straight away, as we expected. All the systems worked straight out of the HRT transporter, and I felt comfortable immediately.
“It feels nice and responsive, everything you’d expect from a new Commodore.”
HRT head to Sydney this weekend in solid form, with Tander and his teammate James Courtney having taken victory at the last two V8 rounds in Townsville and Ipswich respectively.
“I’m looking forward to the event at Sydney Motorsport Park,” said Tander, who has won there before in 2008.
“I love the track, and it’ll be a challenging weekend given we’re running both the soft and hard tyres.
“We’re showing over the last few events that our form is very strong, and it’ll be nice to debut a new Commodore and have a race win straight up.”
HRT will be on track at Sydney Motorsport Park from this Saturday 23rd August.
