Mobil 1 Beware Counterfeit Oils

East Coast Lubes, as the only authorised direct importer of Mobil oil in Qld and NT, is aware that the market is now seeing copy or counterfeit Mobil Lubricants being sold online.

Recently there have been a number of cases were machinery has been adversely affected by these copy oils. The copies look similar to the original packaged product but may be in unusual pack sizes.

A recently tested counterfeit oil was found to contain significant amounts of Canola oil causing immediate long term equipment damage.

Damage caused by non-approved, non-specified lubricants is not covered by your OEM warranty.

IP (Intellectual Property) crime is committed when someone who has is not authorised to use a particular brand, logo, design, music or creative work, for example, does so illegally.

This is also known as counterfeiting. Every item that carries a brand is likely to experience counterfeiting at some time.

IP regulations keep standards high for consumers and ensures public health and safety, and protects innovations so the rightful owner can earn income from their creation.

Counterfeit goods are manufactured with no regard for public safety and may contain sub-standard formulas and or components, and not be produced to manufacturer's specifications. This could cause equipment failure, accidents, explosions, fires and other damage.

Counterfeit goods are produced cheaply, and therefore costs less and often come in packaging that doesn't look quite right.

Counterfeit goods are most likely to be sold through unconventional outlets such as markets, online and directly through individuals who are not usually associated with retail sales.
