PREVIEW: Townsville 400

Since returning home from Darwin, the Holden Racing Team has had just over two weeks to prepare the #2 and #22 Commodore VFs for the next event on the V8 Supercars calendar, the Townsville 400. The team will again head north from Melbourne to warmer weather, to tropical north Queensland and to a circuit that has proven very successful for the team in the past.

To continue the 25th anniversary year celebrations both HRT cars will be sporting a special heritage livery for the event – the 1997 VS Commodore driven by Peter Brock and Greg Murphy. Further paying homage to the classic #05 Tander will see a change to his car number running #02 for the weekend.
While classed as a street circuit, the 2.86km Townsville track is located at Reid Park and is part street, part race track. This gives it some interesting characteristics with long loaded corners and aggressive curbs. The challenge for teams comes in setting up the car so that it has good drive but also preserves the rear tyres in the second part of the lap.

Both Tander and Courtney have enjoyed much success in Townsville with the pair clinching multiple podiums, and a one-two finish in races at both the 2013 and 2014 events.
