James Courtney Injured in Incident at Sydney Motorsport Park

The Royal Australian Navy and V8 Supercars are investigating an incident in which James Courtney was injured at Sydney Motorsport Park.

Courtney was struck by a piece of flying debris dislodged by a military helicopter during a display at the track.
He was treated by medical staff at the scene and taken to the onsite medical centre for examination and was later transported to hospital for further assessment.

Courtney missed the final practice session as a result of the incident, with co-driver Jack Perkins steering the #22 Holden Racing Team Commodore during the session.

Update on James Courtney’s condition:


James Courtney has two fractured ribs and a pneumothorax which is small pocket of air between the ribs and lungs. It creates pressure on the lungs and make breathing difficult. Courtney will remain in hospital for a couple of days to receive treatment.

Co – driver Jack Perkins will replace for Courtney this weekend, making his racing debut for the Holden Racing Team.
