FACTORS RELEVANT TO THE FISHING INDUSTRY

In the early years at Exmouth Gulf MG Kailis ran up to fourteen vessels in the fleet and therefore had to dispose of 12,000 litres of oil per season. Synthetic oil enables them to extend the oil drains and therefore only need to dispose of 1,000 litres at the end of the season. Over a five year period, this equates to a saving of 70,000 litres of oil

During the evaluation process they also experimented with a number of varieties of Mobil diesel synthetic oil  MR Kailis now believe that the best performance is with Delvac 1 synthetic oil in the main and auxiliary engines and Mobilgard 1 SHC in the marine transmissions or gearboxes. A Mobil technical engineer can confirm applicable oils for other types of machinery.

Due to the enhanced lubrication qualities and friction reducing abilities of the synthetic oil, a 3% diesel fuel consumption saving was also gained. The Exmouth fleet, which used up to approximately 3,000,000 litres of diesel fuel per annum in the 1990’s, achieved a saving of approximately 100,000 litres per year.
