The Holden Racing Team’s James Courtney has finished second in Race 4 of the 2014 V8 Supercars Championship at the Tyrepower Tasmania 400 today.
After setting the fourth fastest time in this morning’s ten minute qualifying dash, Courtney circulated with good pace in what was an uneventful first half of today’s 42-lap sprint until the two Red Bull Racing Commodores made contact and allowed the 2010 Champion to claim second on lap 26.
From that point, Courtney managed to maintain his track position despite fending off late race challenges from Ford Performance Racing’s Mark Winterbottom and was pleased with his Commodore’s overall performance.
“Our car speed today was pretty good,” Courtney said.
“After our practice result yesterday, we made some changes overnight which helped our qualifying and race pace today.”
“There are still a couple of key things that we’re working on but we have definitely made gains which is great.”
“It was great for the team to get a podium today and we’re looking forward to qualifying and racing again tomorrow.”
Garth Tander ensured that both HRT Commodores finished within the top 10 taking the chequered flag sixth after qualifying 14th.
“It was a positive day, despite the fact that we didn’t qualify as well as we would have liked.”
“Throughout the first race, the car was really good. We had a few small balance issues, but we managed to have a pretty good race overall and charge through the field.”
“In the second race I made contact with Lee Holdsworth during one of the safety car re-starts and so the rest of the race was damage limitation.”
“We got a sixth and a seventh, so not bad results and we went forward from qualifying. We’ll have a good look at things tonight, and make sure we focus on qualifying well tomorrow.”
Tomorrow will be another busy day for the Holden Racing Team, with a 20 minute qualifying session at 11:25am and a 200km race at 3:55pm.
