Courtney ninth at Winton

The Holden Racing Team’s James Courtney has finished in ninth place at the conclusion today’s second 100km sprint at Winton Motor Raceway.

After qualifying 16th and 17th for Races 7 and 8 respectively, Courtney began to gradually work up through the field during the first race of the day. Unfortunately, his forward progress was cut short with the 2010 Champion falling foul of a race restart incident that saw car #22 stranded in the Holden Racing Team garage and out of contention.

With repairs to his VF Commodore complete and today’s second race underway, Courtney again started with determination and steadily rose up the order. After executing some sharp passing moves, Courtney took 10th place on lap 26. From there, he managed to gain an additional position to take the chequered flag ninth.

On the other side of the garage, teammate Garth Tander also struggled to extract optimum qualifying pace from his Holden Racing Team Supercar but still managed to register the 10th best time of today’s first 10 minute all-in dash.

At the conclusion of the second qualifying run, the 2007 V8 Supercar Champion was only able to manage the 20th best time.

Improved race results did not materialise for Tander with the #2 HRT Commodore finishing 15th and 21st respectively in Races 7 and 8.
