The Holden Racing team has completed its assault at the Australian Grand Prix with both the #2 and #22 Holden VF Commodores finishing the final 12 lap sprint race inside the top 6.
The accumulation of points from the weekend’s first three races determined the starting positions with James Courtney 4th and Garth Tander 8th.
There was a spectacular crash at the back of the field during the rolling start and another incident on the exit of turn one, which saw a total of five cars eliminated from the race with damage. The Holden Racing team were safe from the carnage and Tander got a good start promptly gaining one place and moving into 6th.
Courtney played musical race positions with Whincup who passed him at the start of the race. Courtney fought his way back in front through the opening turns, however V8 Supercars officials believed he had passed under safety car conditions and ordered Courtney to give up his 4th place to Whincup.
At the restart the two were at it again and Courtney was pushed wide by Whincup through turn 3, but he managed to get past. Courtney then battled with van Gisbergen for 3rd place in the remaining laps but was unable to pass and remained in 4th position until the end of the race.
As with the previous races this weekend, Race 4 was cut short to 11 laps after time restrictions were enforced.
The Holden Racing Team now heads to Symmonds Plains in two weeks for the second championship event of the 2015 V8 Supercars series.
