COMMITMENT TO LONG TERM ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT

In previous decades many operators dumped their oil into their vessel bilge, mixed it with detergent and then pumped it in the ocean. This practice was strongly opposed by the MG Kailis Group and therefore they set out to expose the virtues of long drain synthetic oil to the rest of Western Australia and Australia.

For example, the fishing fleet that operated in the Gulf of Carpentaria in the 1970’s and 1980’s comprised of approximately 300 vessels and had an oil drain accumulation in excess of 1,000,000 litres per annum. This could have been reduced to approximately 24,000 litres if synthetic technology had been available at that time and if operators were confident to use it.

MG Kailis are still in the process of informing the WA Fishing Industry and will persist, as the MG Kailis Group is committed to environment best practice both on land and at sea, and to the continual improvement of its environmental performance, recognising its obligations both locally and Australia wide.
